RUSSIANS ‘‘DESTINED FOR MASSACRE”
ROME. An immense horde destined for massacre! That is the view of the Telegrafo (Leghorn), the paper owned by the family cf the Italian Foreign Minister, Count Ciano, in a remarkable article on the Russian army. "In spite of the superior numbers of the Russians, their modern armament, resources, and technical advantages,” the article says, "they have done nothing comparable to the German success in Poland. "Since the time cf Peter the Great the Russian Army has been a factor which must be viewed in the light of human material available and the geographic and strategic position. "On the whole, rather than an army destined for victories, it has always been an immense horde destined for massacre. The Russians have always been stated to have been badly led and badly equipped, and sent out for slaughter without intelligence or object. To-day, Stalin’s motorised columns are following in the footsteps of the soldiers of the Czars.”
