Where Will Germany Strike ?
North at Britain or East of Balkans Canadian Quarters Expect Serious Developments United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 7.15 p.m. NEW YORK, January 3. Serious developments may be expected soon probably north or south-east of Germany, according to information reaching Canadian authoritative quarters from the war zone, states Mr. Birchall, the Ottawa correspondent of the New York Times. An attempt to attack England from the air and from submarine bases in Norway is possible, but it is considered more likely that there will be developments in the Balkans and toward the Dardanelles in an attempt to open the Danube for exploitation as an avenue for German supplies, after ■which the Germans woufd extend their field of operations to the Mediterranean. Russo-German collaboration under German direction is envisaged for such an attempt. It is believed Britain is prepared for some such development and is closely watching the course of Italian diplomacy, which might be a decisive factor. Official circles in London attach no credence whatever to rumours given out in certain foreign broadcasts of Russian troop concentrations on the border of Afghanistan. The Afghan Government has officially denied that there has been any mobilisation of its forces. Nothing whatever is known of any mobilisation in Iran (Persia).
