Cosford had suffered a fracture at the base of the skull when Gold Tray fell at the last Hurdle in the Tutaenui Hack Hurdles at Marton on Tuesday. However, further examination at the Palmerston North Hospital discloses that he is suffering from concussion. He is making steady improvement. JOURNALIST'S RETIREMENT AFTER riFTY YEARS Retiring after nearly forty years’ service with the company, Mr. AIL Diekson, sporting editor, was met by the staff of the Christchurch Star-Bun last Friday at a farewell and presents tion. Mr, Dickson has been in journalism for more than 53 years. He began his career on Otago newspapers before going to the old Lyttelton Times and later serving as sporting writer on the Canterbury Times. He is well known as a racing official as well as a journalist, his many judging positions including that post to the Canterbury Jockey Club and the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. Members of the staff paid tributes to Mr. Dickson’s long service with the firm, and referred to his popularity with those with whom he had been associated. The editor; Mr. A. G. Henderson, presented Mr, Dickson with a smoking stand and a silver-mounted server for Mrs, Dickson. On behalf of the company, tho manager, Mr, H* E, Bob, presented Mr. Dickson with a cheque. lu returning thanks, Mr. Diekson talked of early days in journalism and recalled several amusing incidents in his eareer.
