NERVIE’S LAST DESTROYED STAKE EARNINGS TOTAL £2500 There was an unfortunate termination to the Auckland Trotting Club's summer meeting on Saturday, when, during the running of tho last race, the Premier Handicap, Nervie's Last, who, bracketed with Parauri, was each-way favourite, came to grief, breaking a leg, which necessitated his destruction (states tho Herald). Nervie's Last, a free-legged Austra-lian-bred pacer, owned by Messrs. E. G. and F. A. Bridgens, and trained by F. J. Smith, has been a favourite with the Epsom public ever since he ran second at the Auckland summer meeting in 1935, which was his first appearance in New Zealand. He quickly reached the winner's list, and in his first season registered two firsts, three seconds and a third for six starts. The following season he scored fivo wins and six places for £IOBS. He was showing consistent form this terra, having recorded four seconds, tw-o being at the recent meeting. During his career in New Zealand, Nervie’s Last won nine races, was 17 times second and ten times third, his earnings reaching £2500. The son of Pedro Pronto—Nervie Mauritius was a fine performer at all distances, and his greatest speed was revealed when he took a mile record at Epsom of 2.4. He also took a mile and a-quarter record of 2.41 and a mile and a-half record of 3.13 4-5. His best performance at two miles was 4.21 at Addington. Nervie's Last was to leave to-morrow for the Perth championship meeting in company with Uenuku and Icevus. TROTTING FIXTURES January 4, 5. —Greymouth Trotting Club.
