Two boys who had been cut off by the tide and had taken refuge on a narrow ledge of the cliff at Little Bay, near Sydney, were gallantly rescued by a young policeman. To reach the boys —Norman Ella, aged 10, and Ronald McKenzie, aged 10, both of Yarra—who were oaiy a few feet above a pounding surf, the policeman, Constable MacAskill, was lowered by a rope'4oft. from the cliff-top. Then, barefooted and stripped to the waist, he had to fight his way through a heavy sea. One by one he fastened the rope to the boys, who were then hauled to safety. Eyewitnesses, who spoke highly of the constable's courage, said that if the rescue had been delayed for half an hour the boys would have been washed away to their deaths. By then the ledge on which they had sheltered was submerged.
