It was baking day and tlie new maid and l»er mistress were having a very busy time. ‘‘Mary, '’ said the mistress, “just go and see if that pluiu cake in the oven is baked yet. Stick a knife in it and see if it comes out clean." In a few minutes Mary returned. "The knife came out wonderful clean, ma’am," she said, beaming, "so I'vo stuck all the other dirty knives in, too!"
