Soviet Secures Major Gain by Renewing Pact With Japan

LONDON, Jan. 1. The Kremlin has scored a major diplomatic achievement by reaching an agreement with Japan to extend foi another year the Fishing Convention Pact, says the Moscow correspondent of the New Chronicle. The pact provides for the demarcation of the entire Soviet-Manchukuoan frontier. Manchukuo agrees to pay a long-overdue final instalment for the transfer of the Chinese Eastern Railway. Russia is reported to be willing to continue the discussions with a view to signing a long-term conventon. The agreement is expected to herald friendly relations in the Far East, leaving Russia a free hand in the west.
