From Our Own Correspondent. Recruit Farewelled. On Tuesday evening the local hall waa filled to capacity to bid farewell to a popular recruit, Mr. Eric Wright. Many speakers wished him bon voyage and a safe return. Colonel Herbert, of Eketahuna, addressed the gathering and Mr. Thomasen, chairman, presented the guest of honour with a watch on behalf of the residents of Nireaha. Mr. T. Hancock conveyed best wishes on behalf of the local returned soldiers. On behalf of tho Tennis Club and the Ping Pong Club, of which Mr. Wright was a popular member, Mr. C. Hercock presented him with a cheque. Mr. Wright suitably replied. Mr. Wright, senr., of Eastbourne, thanked all those present for their kind thoughts and presentations on behalf of Mrs. Wright and Mr. Eric Wright. Musical honours were accorded the guest of honour. Community singing with popular war songs filled intervals in the function and dancing continued until the early hours, music being played by Mrs. Boach an<j Mr. D. Thomson. Mr. W. Drysdale was M.C. General. At the conclusion of the school year the children were entertained at a party. Father Christmas arrived and presented all with presents much to the delight of the children. Mr. Neiderer, manager of Nireaha fetore, is spending his annual holiday camping at Miramar, Wellington. Mrs. Blomfleld, accompanied by her daughter Diana, are guests of Miss Bell. Mr. and Mrs. Cornforth have had as guests Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Danes and their small daughter Janice; also Mr. R. Robson and son Roly from Wellington. Miss M. Cornforth is spending her vacation with her parents. Mr. V. Cornforth paid a visit to the Centennial Exhibition during the holidays. 0 December 23 saw the last issue of the Eketahuna Express, and its loss will mean quite a lot to the Eketahuna citizens. Mrs. Allen, together with the entire staff and plant, are moving to Feilding. Mrs. Allen carries the best wishes of the Eketahuna community. The Odd Fellows * Hall was crowded to farewell several recruits in the persons of Captain Bedding, Privates Clarkson, Burling and Anderson. Mr. W. Simpson, Mayor of Eketahuna, was speaker and he apologised for the absence of Colonel Herbert, who was attending a similar function at Bongotnai. He extended to the guests of tho evening an invitation from the Mayor of Masterton to attend a dinner and a civic farewell to Masterton’s contingent. He was sorry they could not have got all the district boys together in ono big farewell, but each district wanted to say good-bye to its own boys. He naked each soldier to accept a small memento from their friends in Eketahuna. The soldiers briefly returned thanks for the gifts. Dancing was continued till the early hours.
