Reduction in Sinkings
ONE-FIFTH OF PREVIOUS WEEK’S TOTAL (British Official Wireless) Received Tuesday, 10.30 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 1. Ships which were sunk last week by enemy actios were the Stan Hoi id (2473 tons), the Barbara Robertson (325 tons), the Resercho (258 tons.) All were British vessels. Neutral vessels sunk were the Norwegian Lappen (563 tons) and the Danish Hanne (1080 tons.) The Norwegian Torwood (254 tons) sank on December 26, but until further details are available it cannot be determined if she was a war loss. Tho Italian ship Comitas (3482 tons) sunk on December 22 must now be added to the total sinkings of the previous week. Last week’s losses are little more than one-lifth of tho losses in the previous week ended December 23. On December 26 tho German merchantman Glucksburg (2680 tons) was intercepted by a British warship and beached herself two miles south of the Chipiona light in Spain. She has since broken up.
