Echo of Feilding Races Investment
£SO NOTE GOES ASTRAY An investor at the Feilding races at the end of November unwittingly parted with a £SO note when making a 10s investment on the “tote.’’ liis choice did not come home but some days later came the realisation that he had lost possession of a £SO note and for the time being could not 1 recall what had become of it. When the Feilding Jockey Club was balancing accounts following the conclusion of the meeting it was found that the proceeds of the “tote” included a £SO note and that the accounts failed to balance in that there was a surplus of £49 10s. This surplus was not taken into account but deposited in a suspense account in the conviction that it would ultimately be claimed. Some days elapsed, before anything further was heard of the investment. Certain inquiries were made but no owner could be discovered until the first day of the Manawatu meeting when the Feilding Club’s secretary (Mr. Guy Goodbeherc) was approached with the query as to whether the club had been out in its totalisator balance. The question was qualified by tho statement that a £SO note had gone astray aud the person speaking to the secretary wondered if by chance he had paid it in on an investment in mistake for a 10s note. Mr. Goodbeherc acknowledged that the club was holding a sum of £49 10s on behalf of some unknown person as it. appeared from the presence of the £SO note in the cash that some one had paid in a £SO note in mistake for 10s.
Evidence was soon forthcoming to satisfy the club officials that the person concerned was the owner of the £49 10s and this was handed over.
