From Our Own Correspondent. The Beautifying and Improvement Society held two successful euchre parties during the week. The winners on Thursday evening were Mrs. A. S. Carkeek and Mrs. Rose and Messrs. E. Clare and W. Hunter. On Saturday evening three ladies tied for first prize, tho winners eventually being Mrs. A. Rogers first and Mrs. W. Davison second and tho men’s prizes were won by Messrs. I. Marsh and W. Hunt. At tho conclusion of the cards, a crowd gathered to dance to music supplied by Mrs. W. Beaman and a harmonica trio, consisting of Messrs. J. Nant, lan Little and Ross Carlson. Among those attending the dance were:—Mesdames J. C. Mr. Alan Hickton, of Palmerston North, is spending the vacation with Mr. and Mrs. A. Rogers at their Tangimoana residence. Mrs. O. Whittaker, Misses Audrey Thomson and Weslie Whittaker and Desmond Whittaker are spending tho school holidays at their beach cottage. Douglas Bowden, of Palmerston North, is their guest for a few weeks. Mrs. D. Honore, of Fitzherbert West, and her two daughters, Olga and Andrea, have taken Mrs. Mogridge’s seaside cottage for a fortnight. They have as their guest Miss Betty Stratton from Auckland. Mrs. F. Edmunds, of Inglewood, and her sons, Scott, David and Ken and small daughter, Patricia, are staying with Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Scott. Mr. Russell Penney, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Penney, has returned to Wigram after spending his Christmas leave with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. W. Hunt and family, of Feilding, have taken Mr. Rutherford’s cottage for a fortnight. Master Leslie Symons is their guest. Mrs. J. L. Stuart has hor two daughters, Mesdames C. H. Meads, of Kiwitea, and Klink, of Pohangina, and their families spending the school vacation with her. Misses Ellen and Colleen McGuire, of Palmerston North, are staying with Mr. and Mrs. Rex Toms. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Scott have their three granddaughters, Misses Audrey, Colleen and Lorna Vallender, of Feilding, staying with them. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. Nant during the holidays have included: Mr. and Mrs. Cordiner and family of Petone; Mr. and Mrs. Coley and family, of Wellington; Mr. W. Nant, of H.M.S. Leander; Mr. J. Nant, of Palmerston North; Misses Eileen and Win Nant spent the Christmas with friends in Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Edmunds, of Wellington, are spending a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. C. Imrie. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Castleton, of Hunterville, spent the Christmas at their Tangimoana cottage and arc spending the New Year at Taupo. Mr. and Mrs. A. H.
