Manawatu Tournament QUALIFIERS FOR POST-SECTION PLAY Twenty-nine pairs have qualified for the post-section play in the Manawatu Bowling Centre’3 New Year pairs tournament. Yesterday a further four rounds of section play were contested, making eight in all, and pairs who failed to secure five or more wins were eliminated. Post-section play will commence this morning. The weather yesterday was again fine, althougn overcast, and wind early in the day made conditions somewnat tricky. Four pairs went througn the soction play without a single loss being registered against them, these being: F. Kosvall and C. L. Mowlem (Palmerston North), C. G. Kirker and VV. R. Fleming (Taihape), J. H. von bturmer and P. O. .skoglund (Northern), K. Bland and S. Goebel (Marton). Seven wins were secured by V. Goldfinch and W. Boon (Palmerston North), R. Connor and J. DRAW FOR POST-SECTION PLAY The draw for the post-section play was arranged at a meeting of the centre executive last evening. It was decided that the first two rounds should be played on the Hokowhitu and Manawatu greens, with subsequent games on the latter green. The draw' for the first two rounds is as follow's:— At Hokowhitu.—First round: Paton v. Boon, Childs v. Gordon, Burns v. Watson, Wenham v. Nash, Mills v. J. Kershaw, Tingey v. Fleming, Henderson v. PALMERSTON NORTH RINK IN FINAL TOURNEY AT MASTERTON Messrs. R. Moxon, A. W. Thomson, J. M. Croucher and H. W. Johnson, of the Palmerston North Bowling Club, are contesting tho final of the Masterton New' Year tourney. It was late in the evening, and the hiker took a short cut across the field. Half-way, ho encountered a horse. The horse looked up, and to the horror or* the hiker said: “Sir, I won the Derby last y'ear and this field is resorved for me. Go away! ” In a state of terror, tho hiker bolted out of the field and into the farmyard. “What’s up?” asked the farmer, appearing from behind the farmyard. “That—that horse!” “Spoke to you, did it?” said the farmer calmly'.
