Successful New Year Ball

HELD AT MANGATAINOKA Many visitors were present at the annual New Year ball held in the Mangamutu Hall on Monday night. The gay crowd were in holiday mood and the merrymakers, to the strains of an excellent orchestra, enjoyed themselves to the full. Extras at supper-time were played by Miss Lotus White and Mr. K. Fletcher. Mr, Dave O’Brien was the M.C. Highlights of the evening were a rendering of the 1 'Lambeth Walk” in six-eight time, and a 1 ‘ ladies-take-your-partners’* leap-year cxcuse-me. The New Year ball was a huge success and if every dance in the Bush, in 1940 reaches tho same standard the season will be a memorable one indeed. Among tho dancers were:—Mesdames V. Miller, white georgette and satin; L. Woods, blue taffeta; D. Woods, green georgette; M. Mules (Woodville), floral linen; P. Mules (Woodville), navy spotted marocain; M. Wright, floral georgette; W. Dixon (Eketahuna), floral marocain; N. Beech, multi-coloured satin; Madge Miller, cyclamen organdie; G. Teague (Auckland), emerald satin and sequins; E. Teague (Auckland), white satin and sequins; M.
