Fine and Warm WELLINGTON, Jan. 1. The situation is of a westerly type with high pressure to the north and a series of depressions is passing in th-j south. Winds: Between south-west and north-west, strong at times except in the far north, mainly moderate to fresh in force. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough at times about Cook and Foveaux Straits and south of Cape Egmonth; elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Westerly to south-westerly winds prevailing, moderate in the northern portion with slight seas; strong at times in the southern portion with rough seas. Weather: Changeable in the western and southern areas of the South Island with occasional showers and moderate temperatures, but elsewhere mainly fair to fine and warm.
