Newmarket Handicap to Arvakur Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 1. There was a large attendance at the .third day of the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting to-day. The weather was fine but overcast and the track was fast. The totalisator handled £97,991 10s, as against £88,463 10s a year ago, there being an increase of £9528. Early Bon Star made most of the running from Dictate, The Cardinal, Royal Appellant, Saccone and De Friend. At the half mile Bon Star was closely followed by Sly Fox, Dictate The Cardinal, Saceone and Royal Appellant. The field bunched entering the straight but a furlong from the post Royal Appellant forged ahead and held on long enough to get the decision by a head from Catalogue and De Friend, the latter finishing fast on the inside to dead heat for second. Orwere was the leader to the straight from Bronwen, Suleiman and Orate, with Arvakur showing up ahead of the others. Bronwen had charge at the distance but, vigorously ridden, Arvakur got up in the last few strides to beat her by half a head. Suleiman was a good third half a length behind, followed by Blonde Princess, Orwere and Bachelor King. Time, 1.12. GLASGOW HANDICAP, £450; 7 furlongs. 1-1 SUNOLA, 7.2 (W. J.
