Russia Discovers Her Inefficiency
WORKERS SLACKING (By Telec/apli — Press Assn.— Copyright.)' (Received 30, 2.15 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 29. The Moscow radio to-day severely censured the complete inefxiciency of tome army doctors and also several training centres for nurses. The speaker appealed to women to enlist as nurses, but deplored the fact that many doctors were incapable of handling the lob of instruction. He declared that tome training centres were falling to pieces. He named several of the most Inefficient doctors. The Moscow radio appeals to workers to cease slacking, to increase production, and prevent the sabotaging of Socialism. It declares that industrial disciplina has alarmingly weakened. Production, especially of heavy industries, has been greatly impaired, despite the gravity of the times. “This is intolerable and must be comoated,” added the announcer. “Factory managers must control attendance In default dismissal or other penalties. The private lives of the workers must be supervised.” Air-raid Forecast The following is a striking forecast of the air-raid menace by Dr. Samuel Johnson, in chapter VI of “Rasselas” (written in 1795): “If men were all virtuous I should, with great alacrity, teach thorn to iiy. But what would be the security of the good if the bad could at pleasure invade them from the sky! Against an army sailing through the clouds, neither walls, mountains, nor seas could afford security. A flight o± savages might hover in the wind and light with irresistible violence upon the capital of a fruitful region. ” * 1 The true function of food, ’’ said the host, with a laugh, “is to prepare the palate for tobacco, so lunch being over suppose wc adjourn for a whilf? I can’t offer you a cigar—don’t smoke them. But 1 can give you a pipe of the best—something to write home about!’’ The guest filled aud lit up. Bilence. Presently he said: “This baccy of yours is really fine, old man, what is it?” “N.Z. Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshcad), replied the host, “thought you’d like it. There’s nothing better—or so good—to my mind. And it’s so harmless! It’s toasted.” “What difference does that make?” enquired the guest. “All the difference, my boy. It extracts the nicotine from the tobacco and makes it as pure as rock crystal.” The guest (a “pommy”), eagerly noted the names of the five toasted brands: Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish, Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold—“for future reference,” as he said. “But have a care when buying,” counselled the host “ there are some Totten imitations about!” There are.
