£14,777,000 In Recent Years LONDON. Another gift by Lord Nuffield—£lo.ooo to start a “Good Neighbours” fund at Oxford—is announced. The Pressed Steel Co. of Great Britain, whose works at Cowley adjoin the Morris factory, has also given £SOOO. The fund will make grants of loans to people in Oxford and the surrounding areas who are unemployed or have been placed in exceptional difficulty as the result of the war. It is the wish of the united donors that special consideration should be given to meet financial obligations in respect of rent, rates, housing mortgages, insurance premiums, contributions to friendly societies or medical gervices, assistance in cases of illness requiring additional nourishment, specialist's services, or convalescent home treatment, schools’ fees for dependents, and a replacement of clothes or household equipment. It is hoped that the fund will be augmented by donations from other employers and individuals. Trustees have been appointed. There will be an advisory committee reprelenting employers, organisations of social workers, ex-service men, and work people. Lord Nuffield’s benefactions in recent years now total £14,777.000. including three gifts of over £ 2-million each. Since June he has given away £177,000, and made a promise of anptheg -ginnon -
