BEAULIVRE WILL MEET WITH STRONG OPPOSITION. MORE PUZZLES POR PUNTERS. The Auckland Racing Club’s Summer carnival will be continued at Ellerslie on Monday and the principal event on the third day’s card is the Great Northern Derby. The big handicap races are the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, and the Newmarket Handicap. Taken right through, the fields axe good and, as on the earlier days, the winners appear to be very well concealed. | The betting at Ellerslie is win-and-place and horses which might command respect are as under:— Ellerslie Handicap: Melvanui, Inquisitor, Royal Message. Lucky Jack to Meet Lawn Derby in Match Race Mr. W. T. Lowe, owner of Lucky Jack, has accepted the challenge of Mr. J. F. Mackenny to race Lawn Derby against any horse in New Zealand for £IOO a side. Mr. Lowe says that Mr. Mackenny can name tho distance, but on the performances shown by the two horses, tho longer the journey, the better it would suit Lucky Jack. Lawn Derby defeated Lucky Jack in a match race over one mile from a flying start at Addington rocently.
