U.S. NOT TO CHALLENGE FOR DAVIS CUP
(Received 28, 12.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 27. Walter Pate, United States Davis Cup felector, said to-day that it was doubtful whether any international tennis tvould be played in 1940. “The United States,” he *aid, “cerliinly will not challenge Australia for (he Davis Cup. The only sporting thing lo do is to wait until the end of the i.var and give the Australians time to prepare a sound defence.”
