Keen Interest in Byrd’s Ship
SAILING TO-MORROW Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 28. Admiral R. E. Byrd’s exploration ves--1 sel North Star was generously thrown open to the public to-day. They are pushing and scrambling aboard in amazing numbers and it is difficult to move about. Every part of the ship not roped off is full of children and young and old are plying patient officers with innumerable silly questions, peering inside cabins and patting the huskies, which are greatly admired. The boys generally are more -taken with the big Curtiss Condor biplane on the after deck and the snow cruiser, with its enormous tyres. Admiral Byrd received a number of officials aboard. Later he visited the acting-Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, to whom he extended an invitation to visit the ship. He lunched with the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, Sir Harry Batterbee. Though the time of sailing is not fixed the ship is expected to leave to-mor-row morning
