A message from Apia states that Mrs. Lange, wife of Dr. Lange, of the Government Hospital, passed away suddenly yesterday morning. Major Lindsay Gardner, M.C., in command of the Class IT. Reserves, Palmerston North Company, has received promotion to the rank of lieutenant-colonel.

Major Allan Muir, who lias given up his position as manager of the Gisborne Herald to serve overseas with the New Zealand Special Force, passed through Palmerston North yesterday. He was on the staff of the New Zealand Division during the last war and has been appointed quartermaster of a transport conveying New Zealand troops.
