Well Attended Monthly Meeting ADDRESS BY PRESIDENT The monthly meeting of tho Women’s Institute Garden. Circle was held recently, there being a -largo attendance. The president, Miss Beattie, gave a very interesting lecture, the first part of which concerned the culture of petunias. The second part of the lecture comprised instructions on how to precent mildew on different plants and how to make mulches during the dry weather to keep plants well nourished. Some beautiful plants have been donated by Mr. Sweetman, of Palmerston North, and a competition is arranged for the best blooms later in the season. The competition for the best bloom for the month was won by Mrs, H. Giles, and a bring-and-buy stall of seedlings and plants did good business under the control of Mesdames Giles and Hartridgc. The members of the circle were all very enthusiastic about theii; visit to the gardens of Mrs. Armstead, Hopelands. The rose gardens, rockeries and the profusion of flowers were a delight to tho visitors who expressed their gratitude to their hostess for the pleasant afternoon.

The meeting closed with afternoon tea and a vote of thanks to the president.
