At the final school committee meeting for tho year Air. Iv. Vile presided and there were also present Alessrs. H. Ellery, L. Ivoberstein, R. Bartlett and the headmaster. The balance sheet in connection "with the recent school ball was presented by the treasurer. It showed a credit balance of nearly £2O and members expressed their satisfaction at the success of tho function. Appreciative reference was made of the efforts of the ladies’ committee in carrjring out the catering for such a large attendance so successfully. The wholehearted support of the parents was again a feature of the function
and the committee was duly apppreciativo of this. A vote of thanks was a< corded tho staff (Mr. 1. N. Leet and Aliss AJansell) for their untiring efforts ia training the children aud carrying out their part of the programme so well. Tentative arrangements wero made for the holding of tho school picnic early in the New Year. Air. Vile conveyed the season’s greetings to the staff and members of the committc, who he said had worked willingly and harmoniously for the benefit of the school during the year. Air. Jfilery on behalf of the committee and Arr. Leet on behalf of the school reciprocated the chairman’s greetings. The annual treat lor the children of the district provided by the Women ’a Institute, in tho form of a Christmas party, was held recently. There was a large attendance ol* parents and children and a happy tic was spent. The centre of the hall was occupied by a large illuminated Xmas tree on which dangled dozens of attractive presents. The first part of tho evenings was spent by the children iu folk dances and gaes. This part of the porgramme was supervised by Air. Leet who provided the folk dance music. Promptly at 9 o’clock Father Xmas arrived to distribute the presents and there was excitement as ho began his huge task. Each child received a present after which they adjourned to supper. The adults spent tho later part of the evening in dancing, music being supplied by Air. 11. ArcKinnon. A Alouto Carlo was won by Airs. B. Henderson and patrner. A competition for a vase presented by Airs B. .T. Palmer was won by Air and Airs Leet. Airs. W. Robinson (president) thanked all for their support and conveyed the Institutes’ greetings to all present. The recent steady rains have benefited the pastures considerably and farmers are now assured of abundant feed for the summer months. Advantage has been taken of the fine weather recently to carry out shearing operations. Haymaking has been in full swing for some time.
