Napier Wedding of Shannon Interest

LESTERr—NEWTON A wedding of wide interest to people in the Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay districts was that of Mavis Dorothy, elder daughter of Mr. and Airs. Newton of Colenso Avenue, Napier, to Richard, only son of Mr. and Airs. Joseph Lester of Arapcti, Shannon. The ceremony was performed at tho Cathedral, Napier, by Canon Neild, tho service being fully choral. Tall palms aud flowering pot plants were placed at the altar and steps which gave a very dignified appearance. Tho bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a lovely gown of magnolia mirror satin cut on princess lines. Tho hack was panelled with double seaming, ending in a long- train inset with motifs of puffed shirring mounted oil net. The waist was finished with three satin bows and the sleeves were long ana fitting. A beautiful silk tulle veil was worn which fell from a coronet of orange blossoms also a triple string of pearls with a diamond clasp, a gift from the bridegroom. Her charming bouquet was composed of cream rose blooms and maiden hair fern. Two maids atteaded the bride, Aliss Nola Newton (chief) and Aliss Nancy Pinkney of Wellington. Their graceful frocks wero of shot taffeta in rose and Marina shades cut on smart lines. The skirts were circular, the necklines pointed in front and tho frocks ornamented with diamond buttons. The sleeves were very fully shirred and looped taffeta bows finished the waist line. Small turbans of flowers to match were worn, shoes to tone and they carried beautiful bouquets. Air. S. Stevens of Palmerston North carried out the duties of best man and Air. K. Ricket, Auckland, was groomsman. Air. G. Seddon and Air. C. Ricket acted as ushers. After tho ceremony a reception was held in tho Victoria Hall whero Air. and Airs. Newton and Mr. and Airs. Lester received ninety guests. Airs. Nowton and Airs. Lester wore handsome model frocks in cyclamen and blue taffeta respectively and large picturo hats. Their bouquets were of cream roses, cyclamen and maiden hair fern. An outstanding feature of tho bridal table was tho beautifully iced wedding cake. Tho usual toasts were honoured, Air. J. P. Farrell of Alasterton acting as toastmaster. Tho brido looked charming in a petrel blue suit with deep clover accessories when leaving on a tour of the north. A dance which proved a particularly happy function was held in the evening. Guests came from various parts of tho North Island including Auckland, Wellington and Wanganui. Air. and Airs. Lester will make their future home in Wellington.
