Sensational Dividend by Myarion
Old Bill Wins Open Seven The Manawatu Racing Club's Summer meeting was continued at Awapuni yesterday and the weather could not have been better. There was a very big attendance and the totalisator handled £44,088, as compared with £45,357 10s, a decrease of £1269 10s, which was not bad considering there were several substantial dividends, including one of nearly three-quarters of a century. The total for the two days is £80,063, as against £82,016 10s last year. The course was fast and there were a number of close finishes.

A sensational dividend was returned J by Myarion, the Awapuni-trained winIner of the opening event, the Trial | Handicap, for which Algerian was backled down to little better than evens. Daregain ran through to the front at the end of a furlong, with Kintyre, Debretts, Don Quex, Charles Edward and Myarion next, Algerian being crowded out. Daregain led into the straight but Myarion came from several places back and Royal Sign also joined in, the outsider winning by a longth from Royal ►Sign, with Prediction a neck away and Daregain fourth. Golden Enterprise and Kintyre were next. Prime Quality was another good favourite beaten in the Linton Highweight Handicap, the winner, Little Robin, being at double figures, and the second horse, High Peer, would have paid even, more. Earl Colossus led down the straight from High Peer, Cherry Picker and Golden Ridge, with Prime Quality last. The favourite moved up from the five furlongs but still had a lot of leeway on the home turn, where Earl Colossus, Golden Ridge, Regicide and Little Robin wero the leading division. Little Robin ran on for a win by three-quarters of a length from High Peer, with Prime Quality a head away. Golden Ridge and Earl Colossus were next. Te Ore, only sixth in favour in the Apprentices’ Handicap, scored easily from Mother-in-Law, with the favourite, Brazil, a long way back. Snigger fell in the first half-furlong, getting on the heels of one of the other runners. Mother-in-Law and Te Ore ran to the front and led Vadanoe, Golden Pam, La Coquette, Floral Robe, Trench Law and Kincarole along the back. Te Ore ran to the front at the half-mile and Vadanoe, Mother-in-Law, Golden Pam and Trench. Law were next. Te Ore ran on for an easy win by three lengths, with Mother-in-Law two lengths in front of Vadanoe. Trench Law, Floral Robe and Peach King were next, with Brazil and Golden Pam last. -Siegmund was better backed than The Buzzer and Dainty Sue in the Louisson Memorial, and the public proved to be on the mark, but Dainty Sue was the winner. Old Surrey (outside) and Rarotonga were just in front of Dainty Sue, Galteemore, Trebor and Colonel Bogey going out of the straight, with Siegmund last. Then Galteemore dashed to the front from Trebor, and the pair led down the back from Old Surrey and Rarotonga. Colonel Bogey, Siegmund and Dainty Sue improved their positions on the home turn to follow Galteemore into the straight. Siegmund forged his way to the front, only to succumb by a head to Dainty Sue’s challenge. Three lengths back was Galteemore, a head in front of Colonel Bogey, with Rarotonga and Trebor next. Improved by his race last Saturday, Sir Beau scored an easy win ia the Himatangi Handicap, for which he was better backed than Absolve. Sir Beau and Absolve were smartest out and led Croupisino and King’s Mark round the turn. Sir Beau still held the lead on the home turn and came away to win by three lengths, King’s Mark finishing well to beat Absolve by two lengths for second place. Cronpisino was fourth and Beau Ciel next. First out and first home is a short description of Gold Chase’s success in the Highden Handicap, for which Kehua was favourite. Gold Chase and The Smiler led out from Shining Hours, Pas de Cheval and Kehua, with Dunmanway at the rear. Kehua moved up from the half-mile and Dunmanway followed her, but Gold Chase was still clear into the straight and ran on solidly to win by threo lengths from Dunmanway, who beat The Smiler by a length. Pas de Cheval was fourth and Kehua was ten lengths back. Another favourite “bit the dust’’ when White Rajah was well beaten in the Kelvin Handicap, Classform scoring a runaway win from Pearl of Asia. White Rajah, Pearl of Asia and Little Dorrit led Chere Amie out from an uneven despatch, but Chere Amie then took up tho running and White Rajah dropped back, Little Dorrit going up to second place along the back. Classform came from the rear at tho threo furlongs, hit the front at the straight entrance, and camo on for a win by four lengths. Pearl of Asia was two lengths ahead of White Rajah, with Acrobat fourth and Te Oriko next. Old Bill registe'ed a brilliaut performance to win the Awapuni Handicap, for which ho was a hot favourite, carrying £1930. Alchemic and Lord Cavendish led out from Laughing Lass, Old Bill, Sleeveless and Alunga, but the favourite dropped back a little, to follow Lord Cavendish, Alchemic, Sleeveless, Laughing Lass and Alunga into the straight. Laughing Lass forged ahead and Sleeveless also joined in, but Old Bill, pulled out from the rails, finished brilliantly to win by half a head from Sleeveless, with Laughing Lass a length, away. Mishna was a close fourth and then came Bold Step, Haughty Winner and Lord Cavendish in line.
