Audacious Raid By Irish Republicans
EIRE ARMY MAGAZINE FORT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Monday, 6.30 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 24. Raiding the Eire Army’s magazine fort in Phoenix Park, Dublin, last night Irish Republican Army supporters secured a large quantity of arms, ammunition and equipment. The raiders overpowered the guard and filled up lorries of which no trace can be found. Four men alleged to have been concerned have been detained. It is officially stated that a man in a military uniform approached tho main gates of the fort and handed in a parcel addressed to the commander. The gate having been opened, armed men overpowered tho sentry and held up the guard. Shots were fired at a military policeman nearby in the park causing soldiers to be rushed there.
Four men carrying revolvers were arrested. It is estimated that between 50 and 100 raiders participated.
