PERSONAL
Mr. C. Y. Fordham, who has been an officer of the Native Department for 29 years and Registrar of the Native Laud Court, Wellington, since 1926, has been promoted to the position of Registrar of tho Court at Rotorua, probably the largest of the Department’s offices. As a naval officer in tho Great War Mr. Fordham was one of tho few New Zealanders who saw the scuttling of the German fleet at Scapa Flow. Lieutenant C. Pike, who has been conductor of the Palmerston North Garrison Band for the past nine years, has been appointed officer commanding the Trentliain Military Band and commences his duties next Thursday. He has been recommended for promotion to tho rank of captain. Lieutenant Pike was the recipient of a wallet presented by Mr. J. A. Nash (president) on behalf of the band. He congratulated Mr. Pike on his appointment and wished him good luck in his new position. Similar congratulatory remarks wero voiced by Messrs. G. Tremaine (chairman of the executive), K. A. Henderson (chairman of tho finance committee) and J. P. Cowlishaw (on behalf of the band members). Bandmaster H. Guthrie was appointed acting-conductor. Owing to Mr. Pike’s departure it is doubtful whether tho band will compete at the Centenary contest.
