Freezing Works Season Under Way

OVER 3000 LAMBS DAILY AT LONGBUEN Although the season for fat lambs is somewhat late owing to unfavourable weather conditions, the Longburn Freezing Works are handling between 3200 and 3300 lambs a day. One “ chain” is being used and immediately after the holidays the second will be put into operation, this being the capacity of the works. Lambs are coming forward at good weights and other feature of the offering are quite satisfactory also. Bobby calves are now practically all dealt with and only a few are reaching the works. A little boneless beef is being handled, but a change, forced by the war conditions, will be the elimination of the chilled beef trade, all beef going Home now being frozen. Good progress is being made with the erection of additional cool storage space at the rear of the works, this being another requirement arising from the war. The building has been in courso of construction for about 13 weeks, and it is anticipated that it will be completed shortly after the New car and will bo in commission halfway through January. This additional storage space will give further elasticity in the holding and forwarding of shipments of meat to the wharfside, and will give the works a storage space greater than the minimum roquired by the Department of Agriculture.
