NEED FOR FUNDS
Public Asked to Support Seal Campaign GOOD RESPONSE TO DATE (Ey Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. Deep appreciation of the response to date in the patriotic seal campaign, and the assistance given by voluntary workers, was expressed by Mr R. H. Nimr.lo, deputy-chairman of the National Patriotic Council and thp riginator of the seal appeal. Thousands of replies have been received, and thousands are still expected, imposing a big task on the voluntary staff handling them. He mentioned that it took an hour to handle 300 of them, and as the work must be done in the presence of representatives of the Audit Department, it can be realised that the job is no light one. During the holidays replies will be held by the Post Office and be dealt with early in January by a selected staff. Mr Nimmo referred to the frank help given by the Governor-General, members of the National Board and Council, the Press, and the broadcasting authorities, the printers of the seals, and those doing the work of mailing and handling. From the results to date, he was sure New Zealanders would never let down the men who had answered the country’s call. There was an urgent need for funds, particularly in view of the impending departure of the first echelon overseas. For that reason the public was asked to give not only generously but quick!-
