Father Xmas Visits Druids’ Juvenile Lodge
PAHLATUA FUNCTION A GREAT SUCCESS A Christmas party was staged by tho Pahiatua Druids’ Juvenile Lodge in tho Masonic Hall on Tuesday night when over fifty children were entertained. The seasonable atmosphere seemed to affect the members of the senior lodge just as much as the children, for they entered into the spirit of the party as though they were many years younger. Visitors were present from Itunhine Lodge, Dannevirke and Myrtlo Lodge, Eketahuna. Heralded by the piping of Mr. R. M. Burns, Father Christmas entered the hall to bo * welcomed by Supt. F. Kidder. Every eye was glued upon hiui as he began to distribute bags of sweets from his capacious store, and for a while tho children were kept busily occupied. Their attention was soon drawn to the tree, where tho gifts were being detached and handed to Father Christmas. He distributed them to the children with comments that caused gales of laughter, especially when he presented Bro. Kidder’s gift. A parcel game ended appropriately with a gift for Father Christmas himself, which was handed over to the accompaniment of musical honours. Community singing during the evening was led by Bro. F. Bidder, with Bro. J E. Macdonald nt the piano. A vocal solo, * ‘ Little Old Lady, ’ * was rendered by Lorna Pratt. Music for dancing was played by Bro. G. Hogg, and a Monte Carlo was won by Sis. L. Pratt and Bro. T. Levy. A tasty supper supplied by the ladies of the lodgo was served by a willing committee headed by Sis. Braggins. Soft drinks were served for the children. Sis. Tapp won a musical parcel game. The Christmas competition for a box of chocolates was won by P. Gable (Palmerston North). Father Christmas made the presentation of a silver pencil to Sis. M. Pratt, who had collected the most funds for tho Christmas entertainment. The visitors from Dannevirke and Eketahuna were welcomed by Supt. Bidder who hoped this would not bo the last of their visits. D.P. Bro. Oldham replied on behalf of Eketahuna, and P.A. Bro. Morrison on behalf of Dannevirke. P.D.P. Bro. A. Cosford, | on behalf of the Druids’ Lodgo, thanked the ladies and visitors for attending and helping to make the evening a success. A hearty vote of thanks to Supt. F. Ridder for so capably organising tho party proposed by P.D.P. Bro. G. G. Taylor, was carried by acclamation. “Auld Lang Syne" concluded an evening carried through in the best Christmas tradition.
