From Our Own Correspondent. Tennis Club. On Saturday afternoon weather conditions were perfect lor a club day held by the Tennis Club. Air. Cyril Hurcomb (captain) explained that the afternoon had been in honour of Mr. J. Borrett, who had been a member for many years and had taken an active part throughout. Mr. Borrett had enlisted in the Air F’orce and will take up duties at New Plymouth at an early date. Air. Hurcomb, on behalf of the club, presented Air. Borrett with a wallet. Mr. Borrett thanked the members for their kindness. Breaking-up Concert. A splendid programme was rendered by the pupils of the school to a large audience of parents ami visitors who thoroughly appreciated the efforts. *The headmaster, Mr. R. N. Finlay, addressed the audience and children on the year’s work and achievements, payingtribute to the helpful co-operation from the School Committee and also from the parents. The chairman of ehe School Committee, Mr. J. H. Sumner, paid a compliment to the teachers and children for the fine display and effort In the concert, many of the items being of a high standaid. The children of the standard classes were presented with merit certificates gained. A pleasms teatare was the presentations made by the pupils to their teachers. Dulcie Hackett presented Air. R. N. F'inlay with a Morocco key retainer from the jForm n pupils. The girls of standard 3 tnh 1 v pres . entea Miss Anderson W i o a Jars:e box oC chocolates and standard 3 presented Miss E. Shaw with a box of handkerchiefs. At the conclusion of the function, the adults were entertained at afternoon tea, while all the children received ice-creams. Methodist Sunday School. The anniversary of the Ashhurst Methodist Sunday School was held last Sunday, when special singing was rendered by the children, during both morning and evening services. The preacher in the morn ing was Rev. li. Richards and in the evening Rev. C. A. a former minister of Ashhurst. On the following evening a Lea was provided for the Sunday School pupils after which a concert was held.
