Wanganui Track Work
AWAPUNI AND ELLERSLIE CANDIDATES MISHAP TO WOTAN The three Wanganui candidates for the Ellerslie meeting were given useful work the reverse way on the local tracks on Tuesday, when weather conditions were again ideal and No. 1 grass track was in excellent order (states the Chronicle). Homily worked strongly over a couple of circuits the reverse way, hitting out freely. Ringcraft also worked nicely and appears to be much improved as a result of his Woodville racing. Algerian was given a strong working gallop without being required to make time. The Beau Pore three-year-old will race at Awapuni next week, having no engagement the first day. Wotan pleased by covering six furlongs in a shade under lmin. 18sec. He pulled up well, but on returning to his box struck himself, inflicting a severe gash in liis off hind leg. Ho lost a great deal of blood, but after cooling off he appeared to be as playful as ever. He will probably have to miss a final gallop prior to contesting the Manawatu Cup on Saturday, but there is nothing really amiss with the Siegfried horse. The Phaleron Boy—Golden Hair filly in L. G. Butler’s stable, who will race as Golden Bay, struck out freely over three furlongs, taking a shade under 39soc. Tho Tryst, in receipt of about 281 b. from War Lap, ran away from the Lapidary gelding over the final stages of a spin over seven furlongs, registering lmin. 29. 2-ssec. for the full distance. Tho Tryst will probably be tried over a distance during the holiday racing, as he appears to bo more suited to that department than to sprinting. After the breakfast interval Gay Gipsy pleased by hitting out freely over three furlongs, taking 38sec. Baron Bold, by himself, slipped over seven furlongs in 1.30 3-5, the initial quarter taking 26sec. and the first five furlongs being left behind in 1.4 2-5. Fekoe worked for a couple of circuits at strong half-pace. He is engaged on a later day at Awapuni. Amigo was not fully extended over five furlongs the reverse way, running from the finishing pest to the five in 1.2 3-5. With A. E. Ellis in the saddle, Amigo must be accorded an excellent chance in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie. Owner-trainer L. G. Paul has tried a new bit on the Beau Pere gelding and has found it. easier to restrain him from his usual tear-away tactics. Useful pace work was done by Portal, Dynasty, Curtail, Grane, Sam’s Choice and Sir Beau. MANAWATU CUP PROBABLE RIDERS Probable riders for the Manawatu Cup are:— Centrepoise: P. Atkins. The Buzzer: B.
