From Our Own Correspondent. School Picnic and Prize-giving. On Friday last the school children’s picnic and prize-giving was held. There was ja good attendance of children and parents as well as visitors from Utuwai, Plri Pirl ! and Aplti. Tennis and swimming were i enjoyed as well as a comprehensive sports , programme. Lunch and afternoon tea were served by the ladles and sweets and fruit were distributed amongst the children. Mr. Procter, teacher, called on Rev. Ashworth to present the prizes won during the year. From far and wide friends and wellwishers journeyed to the Utuwai Hall on Monday evening to attend there the gift evening given in honour of a popular couple, Miss Madge Foot, of Umutoi, arid Mr. Jim Macintosh, of Ohakune, whose wedding takes place shortly. The evening was spent In dancing and card playing. Little Bhirley Buckman presented Miss Foot with a bouquet and Mr*. Jensen received one also from Bonnie Foot. Mr. C. Searle called on the young couple to accept the gifts with best wishes from all. He said that the large crowd present expressed more than he could, the esteem in which they were held. Mr, Matin tosh returned thanks on behalf of Miss Foot and himself for the many gifts and good wishes. Willing hands helped to unwrap the parcels which disclosed a varied and useful lot. Supper was dispensed. Music for the dancing was supplied by Misses j. Searle, N. Churcher. Mrs. Buckman, Messrs F. Churcher, F- Harvey, E. Buckman and C. Searle. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. J. Cawood and Mr. E. Osborne. Messrs H. Mackenzie and K. Searle acted as M's.C.
