Death Struck As She Used Her Lipstick

With a towel as a skirt, a police officer showed the Hastings (England) Coroner how a 14-year-old girl was burned to death while making up her lips. The victim was Kathleen Storey, who died from severe ourns when her clothes caught lire. The Coroner said he was inclined to believe the police theory that she was making-up with lipstick and, when she leaned forward to see herself in the mirror, her skirt blew into the lire. In a test the police officer leaned the fire to see into a mirror. The draught blew the towel “skirt” over the flames and it caught alight. A verdict of ‘‘Accidental death” was recorded.
