Foxton
From Our Own Correspondent. Mrs H. Cornfoot, of “Greenlea,” Halcombe, is at present visiting fiex* daughter, Mrs W. J. ltoss, of Poplar. Mr and Mrs S. 1. Walden have returned to Foxton after spending a holiday in the Hawke's Bay district. M.r C. Simmons, of Feilding, spent the week-end in Foxton bidding farewell to his many local friends, before he sails by the Rotorua in a fortnight’s time for England. Mr Simmons arrived in Foxton in 1910 and spent many years locally, removing to Feilding only a few years ago. While residing in Foxton Mr Simmons took a keen interest in music and entei*ed musical circles on his removal to Feilding where he was recently fare welled by the British Music Society and tho Feilding Municipal Band, of which he had been chairman. Ho was made the recipient of handsome gifts. Mr B. Walls, of Main street, Foxton, is at present attending the bands contest being held at Nelson this week. Mr Walls in euphonium player for the Palmerston North Citizens’ Silver Band. At Monday evening’s meeting of the Foxton Repertory Society, a vote of sympathy was passed with Mr J. K. Horn-< blow tpatron)in his illness. As a result of being knocked down by a cyclist in Main street on Friday last, Tommy, the five-year-old son of Air and Mrs H. Hamer/ of Johnston street, sustained a deep gash on his forehead. The child was badly shaken by the accident. Foxton Beach Highway. Mr Dunstan, engineering surveyor, of Dunedin, arrived in Foxton on Saturday under engagement to the Manawatu County Council, to carry out the necessary survey work as a preliminary to the sealing of the Foxton-Beach highway. Mr Dunstan was conducted over the road on Monday by the County Council engineer (Mr H. V. Bond) and he has obtained the use of the Foxton Racing Club’s office for the preparation of his plans. It is understood that the preparatory work In this connection will be started immediately and the undertaking is to be carried out with a minimum of delay. Valedictory. Tho teachers of All Saints’ Sunday School, Foxton, met at the Vicarage on Tuesday evening last for the purpose of saying farewell to Miss S. M. Lee, who for the past two years has been superintendent of the Sunday School and who is shortly to leave on a holiday trip to Australia. A very enjoyable evening was spent in social intei'course, games, and competitions. Supper was dispensed by tho hostess (Mrs E. W. Burgin) and at tho conclusion, Mr 13. C. Murphy, on behalf of the Sunday School and those present, called on Miss Leo to accept a handsome handbag as a token of affection and esteem in connection with the very valuable services she had rendered the Sunday School during her stay in Foxtor
