Funeral of Car Smash Victims
LATE MR. AND MRS. SHARMAN. Last respects were paid yesterday to the late Mr and Mrs L. W. Sharman, of Palmerston North, who met tragic death in a motor collision on the Mas* terton highway earlier in tho week. The double funeral was an exceedingly large one, members of the Foresters' Lodge acting as pall-bearers. There was a service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. J. Hubbard, who also officiated at the graveside, where a lodge service was ulso conducted. Many beautiful floral emblems were placed upon the grave. The late Air Leslie William Bharman was known to many residents of Palmerston North, as fie find worked at tfiis centre for a number of years. A son of Air C. E. .Bharman, of College street, and the late Mrs Bharman, he was 33 years of age. Levin was tne late Air Bharman's birthplace. He attended school there and came to Palmerston North about 1914 to enter the employ of a cycle firm. On the dissolution of the partnership of the priu cipals, Air Sharman continued in the employ of one, and some 12 years ago removed to Alasterton, where he undertook employment in a cycle firm’s establishment. About five years ago he commenced business on his own account in Alasterton, and had ff&ccessfully conducted his undertaking since then. Although an attack of infantile Xjtfralysis when a child had left him with an affected foot aud thus prevented his active jiarticipation in sport, Air Sharman followed games keenly and was a popular member of the community in the Wairarapa centre. He was interested in both the Foresters’ and the Alasonic Lodges. Mr Bharman married Miss Margaret Stevens, daughter of Air aud Mrs C. R. Btevens, of Broadway avenue, his wife being one of the victims of tfie tragic smash. In addition to Mr Sharman's daughter, aged seven, there are left to mourn his death, his father, four brothers, and five sisters. The brothers are Messrs J. E. Bharman (Whangarei), J. B. Bharman (Napier), L. A. Bharman (Gisborne), and B. V. Bharman (Palmerston North), and the sisters are Mesdames H. Al. Neilsou (Wellington), F. Anderson (Palmerston North), H. Boulton (Weraroa), F. Field (Weraroa), and J. Johnston (Palmerston North). Another brother, Air C. R. Bharman, lost his life in the last few days of tho Great War.
