Manawatu Speedway

FINAL AND BEST MEETING. The management of the local speedway have not spared uny trouble in bringing together a strong team of clever and fast broadsiders for the final meeting to be held on Saturday. The team from Auckland has now been completed and is an exceptionally strong one comprising Alf Mattson (N.Z. champion), Charley Morgan (scratch rider), Lou Warrey (fresh from Australia), Brian Smith, Len Perry, Sel Casey and Peter Phillips, whilst the Manawatu team consists of the following riders:— Putt and Curly Mossmau, Ray Grant, Joe Garrity, Harry Maugham, Morris Smith and Rusty Syles. The last three are local riders who have done very well this season. Harry Mangham. is an old speedway star but unfortunately lias only appeared twice this season. These three riders will all be riding faster machines on Saturday and will be equal to tho best. Jim McLeod, who has ridden with conspicuous success this season, will act for both teams as a reserve rider. lii place of tho usual handicax> events the above mentioned riders avuo are undoubtedly the finest in New Zealand, will contest the honours with two other riders to be secured for the Manawatu championship. This will be run in four heats of four men each tho winner of each heat to compete in the final. All heats will be run from scratch so that there will be some daring and spectacular racing and whoever wins the final will certainly earn the title of champion. From all indications the meeting will go on record as the finest held in New Zealand and already large numbers of applications from outside districts have been received for reserve seats, but as former? ly, all seats are open and cannot be reserved. Patrons are advised to come early as the meeting will commence sharp at 8 p.m. with record attempts. In

order to follow the teams racing more easily and have a permanent record of this big night, extra programmes will be printed and will be available at a small outlay. In the event of an exceptionally wet night necessitating a postponement, the same meeting will be held on Alonday night and will be advertised in the press.
