Equal Rights for All Unions
OPPOSITION TO PLAN OF BIG THREE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Opposition to the plan for the formation of a New Zealand Federation of Labour, proposals for which were contained in a circular issued by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, New Zealand Workers’ Union and New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union, was embodied in a resolution passed tonight by the Canterbury district council and N.Z. Alliance of Labour. The proposal is considered by the council to make for dominance by these three large unions. The resolution was as follows: — "That this district council loyally reaffirms its affiliation with the N.Z. Alliance of Labour under its present leadership and condemns the attempt now being made to disrupt the national industrial movement by the setting up of another national organisation under the domination of a combination of big unions. We call upon our national council immediately, in conjunction witfi the Trades and Labour Council's Federation to send out a call for a national trades union unity conference based on democratic representation from al) unions large or small, for the purpose of building up one national trades' union centre in New Zealand based on equal rights for all unions."
