Men Hurled to Death
BRIDGE TRAGEDY AT GOLDEN GATE '•Tatted Press Association—By Electric T>l#cTar»h —f'npvrlaht. SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 17. Ten men axe believed to have been killed when steel and wooden construction forms crashed from the Golden Gate bridge and plunged to the water 200 feet below Officials said it was inconeeivabJi that they could have survived. Eight bodies aro believed to have been swept out to sea. It is reported that a Coast Guard cutter recovered twq. The workers were stripping teupor* ary forms from the bridge deck when a carrier-wheel snapped. The forms swayed dizzily and then crashed into the safety net. which was unable to withstand the strain and the rearing mass plunged down. Strong tides are sweeping out to sea. This is the first serious accident since the construction of the bridge, which will be opened in May, began. " ' LATER DETAILS. Received Thursday, 10.50 p.m. fcjAN FitANUUHX), Feb. 18. Thirteeu men fell and one saved him self by clutching a rope. TwO were rescued by coastguard. One body has been recovered but mud others are given up for dead." The two taken from the water were treated ut a hospital for shock and sent home apparently uninjured.
