Found Guilty of Arson

MAN WHO SET FIRE TO HIS OWN HOUSE. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Last Night. In the Supreme Court Paul Nod well, aged 57, single, was found guilty by a jury of wilfully setting fire to his dwelling house thereby committing the crime of arson. The hearing lasted three and a-half days, a second trial being ordered when the lirst was three parts completed, on account of the brother of accused being seen talking to a juryman. Counsel for Nodwell, Mr. V. B. Willis, made an eloquent address lasting an hour and forty minutes. The jury was absent two and a-quarter hours including q.n hour for lunch and in delivering its verdict, made a strong rocommondation for mercy on account of prisoner's state of health, Nodwell was remanded for sentence.
