From Our Own Correspondent Golf Club.
The annual meeting of the Woodville Golf Club held on Wednesday was presided over by Mr. W. J. Hawkes and attended by a large number of members. The balance-sheet submitted to the meeting showed that the ciub had experienced a successful season and that the funds were in credit to the extent of £27 10s 7d. Officers for the coming season were elected as follow:—Patron, Mr. F. Ormond; president, Mr. G. Peebles; vicepresidents, Messrs W. J. Hawkes and J. Elder; hon. secretary. Mr. ft. D. Maokie; lion, auditor, Mr. N. E. Robertson; club captain, Mr. E. L. Wilson; committee, Messrs A. Harris, N. E. Robertson, A. S. ■Skinner, J. J. Young and It. Peebles. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr. P. Ormond for the use of his property, Mr. G. Peebles and Mr. .and Mrs. It. Peebles for their many kindly services during the past season, the lady members for their assistance on match, days and at tournament time, the secretary and the treasurer. The following now members were elected: Mrs. F. Mackie, Messrs G. L. B. Williams, C. McDairmid, E. Hutchinson, R. Munro, G. McCullough, E. E. Beale and A. C. Vowell. A donation of £1 Is was made to the ladies’ prize fund, while an honorarium of £3 3s was voted to the secretary. It was decided that as the cjub had joined up with the N.Z. Golf Association’s insurance scheme that the premium of Is (kl per player be levied on the members. It ’was also recommended to the incoming committee that the Elder cup competition and the senior and junior championships be played on a twolife system. The matters of preparing the links for opening and the fixing of the opening day were left to the committee. School Committee Meets. On Monday evening the monthly meeting of the Woodville District High School Committee was attended by Messrs R. R. Johnston (.chairman), H. J. McPeak, L. J. Whittington, R. Peebles, Rev. KnowlesSmith, Messrs A. M. Pickering (secretary) and W. E. Fossette (headmaster). Leave of absence was granted Mr. L. Williams. Miss M. Guild, a member of the teaching staff, forwarded her resignation, stating that she had received a position at the Summerfield School at Christchurch. In connection with the annual picnic the chairman stated that the date had originally been fixed for February 17 but due to the infantile paralysis epidemic it was thought that the date should be altered. It was therefore decided that the picnic be held just before the opening of the school on the 27th instant on which date the headmaster had promised the co-operation of the school staff. The chairman drew attention to the fact that the school would be celebrating its jubilee this year and that arrangements would have to be got under way sis soon as possible. He stated that the Borough Council had suggested that the school committee should work in with them in the celebrations of ths borough. It was decided to call a public meeting when a jubilee committee could be formed and arrangements made for the celebrations. The headmaster reported that during the holidays three workmen from the Education Board had installed six new wash basins, repaired four locks and between 60 and 70 desks at the school. The headmaster also stated that he hoped that parents who desired to enroll their children would do so a day or two before the school actually opened as by doing so the staff would not lose any further time in the already depleted first term. Health Stamp Campaign. During the recent health stamp campaign stamps to the value of £36 13s B<3 were sold which netted the sum of £lB 6s lOd for the fund, to which was added £l3 10s, being £lO proceeds of a street stall and £3 10s donations, making a total of £3l 16s lOd for the fund, as against the sum of £l3 10s 4d In the previous year. Personal. Miss I. M. Graham, of Woodville, has received notice of her appointment as a probationary assistant at the Woodville School. Mrs. G. Jj. Hartrldge is spending a few days’ holiday in Hastings.
