STRONG TEAM FOR FINAL MEETING On Saturday next, the 20th inst., the Speedway at the Showgrounds will stage its final meeting of tho season, when a team of seven riders, headed by the New Zealand champion, Alf Mattson, will engage in a series of 12 match i races against the local team, captained by Putt Mossman. Manawatu’s team so far this season has been undefeated, but it w r iil take their best efforts to defeat the Aucklanders, who, in addition to Alf Mattson, will include his dare-devil brother Doug. Mattson, Brian Smith, who performed well on the locai track last week, Charley Morgan, a scratch rider, Len Perry and two other riders to be. selected. The Manawatu team will consist of Putt and Curly Mossman, Ray Grant, Jim McLeod, Joe Garrity, and two others not yet selected. Those patrons who have seen this combination in action will realise what opposition will meet the Auckland team. Ray Grant is riding exceptionally well, Having obtained a motor-cycle to suit his particularly brilliant and unusual styles of riding. At Auckland last Saturday Grant was successful in beating Alf Mattson in a straight-our raco on tho latter’s homo track by his wonderful cornering and speed, whilst Curly Mossman, who equalled one of the track records last week, is out to break records before he leaves the track next Saturday. In addition to the 12 teams races, there will bo five well-balanced handicap races. AU indications point to tho most successful and spectacular meeting of the season being held on Saturday, and as it is the final meeting of the season all patrons aro urged to attend as it will bo decided on the night’s attendance whether the track will, reopen next season.
