Explosives for Trout

DEAD FISH FOUND AT WHAKATANE. WHAKATANE, Feb. 16. On several occasions this season many trout between three and lour pounds in weight have been picked up on the river bank near the Waimunu {Settlement. They have shown every indication of having been killed with explosives. Anglers who go up into the Urtwera bush reserve say they have seen ample signs of wire-netting having been used iu the river for landing trout. The poaching appears to be done at night. Ten years ago this river was well stocked with trout and an angler could depend on securing a good bag at any time of the day or evening. This season scarcely any of the Walmaua residents have taken out licences and have transferred their sport to the various beaches along the bay.
