Lush Just Misses Hat Trick

Remarkable Performance Repeated N.S.W. WINS MATCH WITH ENGLAND United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright, Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 17. Lush, tho 23-year-old New South Wales fast bowler, continuing his great run of success against the English batsmen, dismissed Ames, Fames and Copson with his second, third and fifth balls in his third over to-day, finishing off the innings in summary style. Ames and Duckworth had carried their unfinished eighth wicket partnership to 54 but at 299 Ames, who had made 60 runs, including seven fours, in 90 minutes, mistimed a drive off Lush and was caught behind point. The next ball, a yorker, bowled Fames. Lush missed the hat trick and then bowled Copson off his pads. Lush finished with seven for 72 following six for 43 in the first innings. He bowled to-day with fine speed and good control and length. It remains to be seen if the performance will force him into the fifth Test team which will be chosen at the weekend after two days play in the match New South Wales against South Australia at Sydney, in which Lush will be opposed to Bradman. The world record for test cricket receipts in one season—£7s,32s in 19281929—seems certain to be broken in the present series. Only another £5681 is required in the fifth and last match at Melbourne. Total receipts from the four tests played so far—£69,64s —are only £707 less than the aggregate receipts for tho five tests of the 1932-33 tour. This is largely due to the world record figures at Melbourne, £29,667, and the new Adelaide record of £17,495. Receipts from the Brisbane test were £583 lower than on the last tour, and Sydney figures were £2552 lower. Figures for the four tests are:—First test, Brisbane, £10,352; second test, Sydney, £12,131; third test, Melbourne, £29,667; fourth tost, Adelaide, £17,495; total, £69,045. Expenses are estimated between £4OOO and £SOOO a match, so that the profits to be divided alroady exceed £50,000. Tho profits are shared on tho following basis:—The Marylebone Cricket Club receives Is (half the outer ground charge) for every person who pays to enter the ground. Ten per cent, of the net profits go to trustees of tuc ground. •Seventy-five per cent, of the remainder goes to the State Cricket Associations. The remaining 25 per cent, goes to the Board of Control for distribution among tho States—three-thirteenths each to Victoria, New South. Wales uni South Australia, two-thirceeutus to Queensland, and one-thirteenth each to Tasmania and Western Australia. These profits are the State Associations’ principal source of revenue, and onable Sheffield Shield cricket to be conducted each year whether it is profitable or not. The test profits make it possible for tho State Associations to foster cricket with annual dividends of about £IOO to each district club, and other grants to junior and country bodies.
