Scholarships Awarded for Research in Agriculture
PALMERSTON NORTH STUDENT Two scholarships were awarded by the Auckland University College Council at this weeks meeting. The Sir James Gunson Scholarship in Agriculture lor 1937-38 was awarded to Mr P. Mcllahon, of Leeds, and formerly of Palmerston North, the only applicant, and a Lissle Rathbono Scholarship, for proficiency in English and history, was awarded to Dorothea J. Morrell, a pupil of the Auckland Girls’ Grammar School, who gained 800 marks out of a possible 900 in the two subjects. There , were 16 applications for the Lissie Rathbone Scholarship. As tho holder of a Macmillan-Brown Agricultural Scholarship, Mr McMahon haa for the last 15 mouths carried out wool research at Leeds University, under the direction of Dr. J. B. Speakman, on the photochemistry of keratin, with special refereneo to wool and related fibres. He attended formerly Massey Agricultural College at Palmerston North.
