Double Fatality

MAN AND BABY KILLED. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, Last Night. As the result of the collision between a sports car and a light truck near Kaikohe yesterday afternoon, Joseph Whitefield, aged 47, married, with two grown-up children, received head injuries from which he died in ltawene Hospital eaj-ly this morning. The six-weeks-old infant child of Mr and Mrs George Dalton, who were passengers in the truck, which was driven bv Jack Etiha, alao died this morning. The mother and father were badly bruised. Murray Boyd, driver of the car in whicli Mr Whitefield was n passenger, - escaped with a scratch on the noso. ;

Members of the staff of the Post and Telegraph Department .at Wanganui recently farewelled Mr. D. T. Allan, telegraph engineer, formerly of Palmerston North, who has retired from the department after years’ service. Mr. Allun was presented with a gold watch by Mr. A. A. Boltons, his successor. Mr. Allan also received a token ot esteem from the staff on behalf of his wife.v
