A garden party at the residence of .he Mayor (Mr. J. D. Wilson) will be held to-day, February 18. The function is to be run under the auspices of the Pahiatua branch of the W.C.T.U.* If the day is wet, the venue will be changed to the Methodist Hall. Advise has been received by the chairman of the Makomako School Committee that Mr. G. K. Claris, of Hataitai, Wellington, has been appointed relieving teacher. A brief and informal function was held on Saturday night to mark the departure of Mr. Les Nicie from the service of the W.F.CJk. at Pahiatua. Mr. W. Scott expressed the regret of the staff at Mr. Nicie’a departure, and on their behalf presented him with a dinner service. He wished him the best of success in his new occupation. Mr. Nicie is to take up a position on the staff of the A.M.P. Society at Carterton.
