Dannevirke Stock Sale
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report having offered only a small yarding of sheep and cattle to a fair attendance of the public. Being an off-day, not much interest was taken in the market, buyers preferring to wait until the ewe fair. Their sales were: G 8 woolly wether lambs, 18s; 62 shorn wether lambs, 17s; 32 good 2-th wethers, 265; 21 b.f. wethers, 25s 6d; potter bulls, £3 to £5 12s. The Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Co-op. Association, Ltd., report that they offered a good yarding of sheep and a fair yarding of cattle. All classes of stock sold at late rates enabling them to effect a total clearance at prices" as under: Fat ewes, 18s, 19s 6d to £1; 5 and Gyr. ewhs, 18s, 19s 4d, £1 Is to £1 2s Gd; store ewes, 13s to 17s Gd; f. and f. S.D. lambs, 18s 3d; S.D. lambs, 14s to 15s lOd; ewe lambs, 18s 6d to £1 Gd; wether lambs, 15s Gd to 17s 3d; S.D. rams, 3 guineas, 31 guineas, 34 guineas to 41 guineas. Fat dairy cows, £3 2s 6d, £3 14s to £4 2s Gd; store cows, £2, £2 14s, £3 Is; cows and calves, £3 7s Gd; bulls, £4 14s to £3 ss. Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Ltd., report that they offered a good yarding of sheep and cattle to a good attendance of the public. A good clearance was effected at the following prices:— Sheep: Fat ewes, 18s Gd to 20s; fat lambs, 20s; 192 good b.f. lambs, 19s Gd; 69 b.f. lambs, 17s; 84 b.f. lambs, lGs 2d; small b.f. lambs, 14s 7d to 15s; 8G 4 and Syr. ewes, 24s 4d; 93 syr. ewes, 21s 8d; 48 4 and syr. ewes, 22a 2d2; 100 wether lambs, 17s 7d; others, 17s 7d to ISs 9d; small wether lambs, 9s; small ewe lambs, 11s Gd to 14s 7d; S.D. rams, £1 lls to £2 2s. Cattle: Fat Jersey cows, £4 2s Gd to £4 9s. Pigs: Weaner pigs, 15s Gd to ISs. NORSEWOOD SALE. LATE RATES MAINTAINED. The Norsewood stock sale was held on Monday, values being on a par with lates rates. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., report having made the following sales.— Thirty-nine 6yr. ewes, 14s Gd; G 8 ditto, 15s; 11 syr. ewes, 18s; 53 aged ewes, 9s; 28 ditto, lls; 94 4 and Syr. ewes, 235; 20 b.f. lambs, 13s; 80 ditto, 12s; live S.D. rams, 11 guineas to 2 guineas; store cows, £2 12s Gd to £4; Jersey weaner he'ifers, £2 2s; fat Jersey cows, £3 10s to £4 12s; Jersey bulls, £5 17s Gd to £6 15s (according to weight), weaner pigs, 10s to 15s. PIGS AND POULTRY AT DANNEVIRKE. R. Roake and Son, Dannevirke, report on their weekly sales as follows.— Pigs: Yardings on Thursday and Saturday were both good, but the attendance was affected, probably through counter attractions, which reflected a little on prices. Very small Berk, weaners, 10s to lls; medium Berk.-Tam. weaners, 12s Gd to 15s; good Tam. weaners, 10s to 17s; extra good, 18s to 20s. All vendors met tire market, SO odd lots being disposed of. Poultry: Decreased numbers were yarded, in comparison to the previous week, prices being about the same. W.L. hens, ,1s to 2s; Minorca and 8.0. hens, Is Gd to 2s Gd; young drakes, Is lid; purebred W.L. pullets, 5s 3d to 5s Gd; aged ducks, Is Gd; roosters, Is 3d to Is Gd. Good inquiry for pullets up to prices mentioned. All prices per head. MANGAWEKA EWE PAIR Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report an entry of 5,000 sheep at Mangawoka ewe fair held on Thursday, 11th inst. with a total clearance. Buyers were present from Waikato, Taranaki and Manawatu and competed froely, as the Mungaweka sheep aro well known for consistent mouths and good breeding. The following are some of their principal sales:— 2-th ewes: A/c John Green, 35s 6d; D. F. Corringe, 40s; F. H. Corringe, 42s (in conjunction Farmers' Dist. Coy.); Glenn Estate, 41s 2d; Watt and Myers, 40s 7d. 4vr ewes: A/c Green Bros., 35s (top price). 4 and syr ewes: A/c Glenn Est., 28s; Moyle Bros., 34s 3d; C. F. Dalgety, 31s; A. G. Pearce, 28s; F. H. R. Corringe, 33s Id (conjunction Farmers’ Dist. Coy.); John Green, 33s Gd; Weston Est., 295. Maiden 4-th ewes: A/p Green Bros., 40s 6d. Gyr ewes: ISs to 235. BULLS SALE Messrs DaJgety and Co., Ltd., report an entry of 3,000 sheep, 70 cattle and 60 pigs at Monday’s sale. Tho sale was well attended and they report a very good clearance. Breeding ewes from tho adjacent farms comprised tho bulk oi the offering and sold well up to present prices. They quote:— Sheep.—2-th ewes, 28s to 38s 6d; syr ewes, 26s Gd to 295; Gyr ewes, 19s to 22s 7d; breeding ewes, lls 7d to 18s Gd; shorn b.f. lambs, 13s to 16s 2d; shorn wether lambs, 9s Gd to 14s Gd; fat ewes, 16s, 16s 9d; fat wethers, 24s 7d, 25s lOd; Southdown rams, ljlgns to Signs. Cattle. —Fat Jersey cows, £3 Gs to £6 9s; store Jersey cows, 28s to 355; weaner heifers, 40s to 555; potter bulls, £4 10s to £5. Pigs.-—Weaner pigs, 8s Gd to lls; slips, 10s Gd to 14s; largo stores, 295, 31s; choppers, 34s 6d to 395; porkers, to 335; baconers, 45s to 50s.
MARTON SALE. Tho N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op Distributing C0.,/Ltd., report a yarding of 6000 sheep, 20 cattle, and 30 jjiga at the above sale on Tuesday. There was an exceptionally largo attendance, and with tho exception of two small pens wo report a total clearance. Tho market was on a par with recent sales. Young ewes roi freely, but older sheep wero inclined to ease somewhat but vendors practically in every case met the market. Our top price for 2-th ewes was 44s 2d a nice line of 325 on account of •?. TV. Stafford. Another lino of similar owes on account of F. Saveli realised 435; Mr Lethbridge’s 2-th ewes realised 30s, and Mr C. G. Gray’s line of 1000 realised from 3Gs to 375. A very nice line of 278 2-th wethers on account of Mr Lethbridge realised 255, and 252 4 and 5-year ewes on account of the same vendor realised 27s 4d. A considerable portion of tho yarding comprised lambs, practically all of a medium class. These all sold freely at prices on a par with recent sales. They quote prices as follows: Best 2-th ewes, 43s to 44s 2d; medium, 36s to 395; 4 and 5-year ewes to 27s 4d; 5 and 6-year ewes, 21s 5d to 22s 9d; aged ewes with good frames, lGs 9d, 18s to 20s sd; 2-th wethers, good, 25s to 26s Gd; tho latter price for a small pen of very forward wethers; small 2-ths 17s!; good medium ewe lambs, 22s 3d to 25s 3d; medium w.i. iambs, lls 3d to 12s sd; smaller sorts to 10s Id; medium woolly b.f. lambs, 15s 4d, 15s 7d to 16s lOd; small m.s. lambs, lls; culls, 7s Gd; fat cows ex dairy, £2 19s to £4 8s; forward ditto, £2 9s to £2 12s 6d; weaner pigs, 10s to 13s Gd; small, 5s Gd to Ss; slips to 18s.
