From Our Own Correspondent The members of the Apiti Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild met at tho residence ol Mrs W. M. Duncan on Tuesday. It was decided to hold a garden party next month at the homo of Air and Airs J. H. Cowan. A very pleasant social afternoon then followed, Mrs Athol VUe* giving 1 pleasure with her pianoforte solos, and ! Airs W. AI. Duncan sang "Aly Dear Soul.’ Two social competitions, one arranged by ' Mrs H. Schmidt, were won by AlesUames A. Viies and S. J. Martin, and Aliss AI. ! Paterson. Member* were pleased indeed thut Aliss Paterson had rec Covered from her receut illness and that she was able > to attend the first meeting of the year. Miss Madge McKay made a very dainty > Victorian posy of pink shaded roses and forget-me-nots, which little Phyllis Alap- » sou handed to the Guild president, Axis i A. F. atevvart. The hostesses served an > enjoyable aiiernoon tea, and the room of shaded pink gladioli. * Airs Duncan, on i behalf of the Gunu, voiced the regret felt by uil at tre impending departure of Airs president, Mrs Stewart lias been absent , from oniy one meeting ana that was due i to indisposition. The speaker wished Rev. and Airs Stewart happiness and health in tneir new sphere anu asked Mrs Stewart to accept au electric toaster as a small token oi the affection ana esteem felt lor i her by tho Guild members. Airs Stewart expressed her thanks to Airs Duncan and the ladies of the Guild for their good wishes and the gift, which was indeed a ■ surprise to her. Mrs Stewart said that j although as yet she did not know where j her new home would be. she hoped that wherever %he would bo settled that, if any of tho Guild members tamo that way, they would be sure to visit at'the Manse where they would be very welcome. Air Frank Elmes, of Napier, has also been staying with Airs Doughty. Mesdames A. It. McNae. A. W. Viies, . H. C. Mclntyre and A. W. Bird, of the ’ Apiti branch, went through to Talhepe on Wednesday to attend a W.D.F.U. meeting.
