Women’s Institutes
STANWAY Tlie February meeting of the Stanway Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday, last week, Mrs Marshall presiding over a large attendance of members. Several visitors were warmly .welcomed to the gathering. Nominations were received for the new committee, to be elected at the March 'meeting. Arrangements were then ! made for the holding of the institute 'picnic. It was decided to hold same at Johnson’s Park on Tuesday, February 23. It is hoped that all members will attend and so make the picnic a memorable one. All members were keenly interested in the demonstration on making artificial flowers from wood pulp, given by Miss E. Ferguson, Kakariki, and her assistants, Misses M. Mason and M. McLennan. Miss Ferguson had many wonderful sprays and blooms for exhibition and these were greatly admired. A sincere vote of thanks was accorded the demonstrators. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames C. Collingham, F. Cowdrey and Miss J. McDowall and J. Dermer. The winners of the Competitions were: Best felt article (seniors), Mrs A. Green 1, Mrs Groves 2; juniors, Miss J. Groves 1, Miss V. Green 2; best bloom, Mrs J. Whitehead 1, Mrs Rosser 2. Members are reminded that the next meeting will be the annual meeting and all are requested to attend. Mrs Winder kindly donated a special prize for the best “Year’s Programme,’' this to be the competition for the afternoon. Hostesses for the March meeting will be Mesdames A. and T. Green, Harvey and Miss Clere.
